EL CENTRO, Calif. – New food market Aldi, is now open in El Centro and Calexico. Aldi is a cost-effective approach to shopping and has been expanding in California opening 25 stores in the last three months and bringing 40 new jobs to the Imperial Valley.
People can also experience a different way of shopping at Aldi when it comes to their cart system and their sitting cashiers.
Store greeter Norman, explained the cart system. “You bring a quarter with you and you put it in the lock and it unlocks a chain for you to remove the cart and use it. It doesn’t keep the quarter, you get it when you return the cart.”
The cart system is a simple way of providing customer interaction and keeping carts from getting lost.
People will also notice workers sitting down instead of standing up at check out. Vice President of Aldi, Moreno Valley division, Gordon Nesbit says, “We’ve done it that way for years, it provides our store associates with a more comfortable working environment and it allows them to be efficient at the front end of the store, so the checkout process for customers is very fast.”
Aldi is open seven days a week from 9am-9pm. For more information about Aldi visit www.aldi.us.
